Important Information

Enrollment still open for many programs!

 The skills center services 25 high school in 10 districts providing career and technical education (formerly vocational) to high school students interested in employment after high school and/or preparation for entering college or apprenticeship.

  • New Market services students who are under 21 without a high school diploma
  • New Market is free
  • New Market services juniors and seniors in public, private, and home-schooled high schools
  • New Market services students who have dropped out of high school
  • New Market offers a high school diploma
  • New Market prepares students to enter the workforce through industry standard certifications
  • New Market prepares students for college; either 2-year or 4-year
  • New Market's program curriculum are aligned with all state GLE's and EALR's

Benefits . . . What do students gain from the Skills Center?

Students who receive training at New Market can expect to:


Develop basic skills, work maturity skills, and entry level occupation competencies at no cost to the student.


Earn up to 4 high school credits in a full-year program.


Learn from teachers/partners who come from business and industry.


Receive information on career and post-secondary opportunities.


Participate in internships and Work Based Learning.


Develop a personal career portfolio.


Participate in a wide range of leadership activities/programs.


Receive a Certificate of Competency.


Make the transition from school to work and/or post-secondary education.


Receive advanced placement or college credit through the Tech Prep programs.

How do I enroll? PDF Print E-mail
  1. Meet with your counselor, review your credits/schedule and obtain approval to apply, and complete a New Market application (downloadable or in counselor office).
  2. Not in school? Contact Laurie Shannon at 360.570.4517 after you explore the program listings on this website.
  3. Make arrangements to come on Friday at 8:30am or 11:30am for orientation which will last approximately 1/2 hour to complete forms and review policies. You can leave and start on Monday or remain and observe your class of interest.
Remember...these are the steps necessary if you wish to apply for programs offered through New Market Skills Center. See your high school counselor TODAY!

If you wish to check us out before enrolling come to orientation and stay for a tour. You will be provided general information about our school and specific information if you have identified a program in which you are interested.
